Bike Jump 01:03
This goes way, way back Before we all got overdressed and underfed A place in time where we were satisfied just guessing And now their grocery bills are paid Wife & kids, wife & kids Hum har hum Come to go Missing persons Sets me way back.
2.
Tallest 01:47
Stick a needle through my heart Put an arrow in my eye It's not that I can't make it, I just don't try And I've got 7-11 lines I've wasted all my fucking time But now that I'm above it I forget the climb Step, step, step There's lots of things to buy Lots of products, lots of stores Acidophilus in yogurt Unswept books and unread floors I can see everybody's house And the right words come But now I remember where they came from Don't forget.
3.
Bosk 02:03
Backwards over my footprints Big day for a little mosquito Made to be broken It feels like it's over Digging holes inside my room And everything I knew starts getting older Until it turns to glue or evaporations Together with myself Selfish with my stuff Toys will lag for junk Work will wait This could last forever Someone said you had to choose Slip into grandpa's shoes And get it over When you stop to check the time It feels like it's over It feels like it's over It feels like it's over It feels.
4.
Jip 01:42
So high for so long In the roof of my mouth And the side of my house I'm not for real I live in a parking lot Dance on the rooftop Music evades and the sound is the backdrop You know the deal Every friend you make each week Every muscle that won't heal You can take every page they wrote about you Throw them all away Let them do this one without you When your friends come unwound And your foes takes your clothes Rock and roll without help Rock and roll all alone And if it makes a difference to you We can recheck the reprinted score But it reads just the same as before You can take every book they wrote about you Throw them all away Let them do this one without you Rock and roll all alone Rock and roll by yourself Rock and roll all alone.
5.
Quarter-Tank 02:22
I guess it's not too far to drive Smear kisses together Blur over scratched out lines Find truth tied in telephone wires And recreate what you don't like Briefly close my eyes to emphasize a thought Trip has me sleeping beneath trees And waking up lost It makes no sense I always seem to be almost out of gas Exiting this way for the last time Here comes the stalemate Here comes the stalemate Here comes the stalemate.
6.
Centipede 01:35
The neighbors left their houses haunted And the dogs always barking Turpentine scented valentine It's all under control Boy meets girl Ground meets sky Inebriated fuck
7.
Lovesick 02:39
Not convinced Sick spittle meaningless twitches And the record's skipping Sleepyhead And the record's king-king-king Interrupted your bright soda noises You said this would work Interrupted your sick selfish noises You said this comes first Ever since oatmeal and ephedrine You know me and my damn paper language And the-cord's king-king Interrupted your bright soda noises You said this would work Interrupted your sick selfish noises You said this comes first This is what you warned me about And this is what you told me to watch out for Interrupted your bright annoyances You said this whole thing was useless Useless.

Black bat airs wrap me* Move like darts Whip trash across the streets Cold air bothered by hot food and grey smoke Not without its cinematic charm if you're only watching But, uh.. but.. But I'm walking around But that's alright Big night lit by every star in the sky Transistor picks up If you keep your eyes open long enough You can see everything. *taken from "Nick and the Candlestick" by Sylvia Plath.

This afternoon is solstice weather Perfect time indeed A winter's worth of dust Shaking off my clothes and rugs Goodbye herbivores, I'm going out One two three four Sides to everything Quick sing-along you won't remember Side streets that I've memorized Just to make a map and read upside-down I was expecting more than by the numbers One two three four Silver but better Never mind the pollen Cut-out cupid Perfect time indeed for the limousines Break down the gymnasium door on the count of five One two three four We'll get this right the first time Never, no No need to revise Sent signals hinge our demise So make up a game to kill some time, huh? See who can keep the score 'cause I'm losing track now Rename the emperor and start screaming numbers One two three four Slide through everything Quick celebration, can't think why not I find it hard to believe that spring is here and nothing has changed I find it hard to believe nothing's changed.

Lazy 01:25
New kid in my church today I'm gonna sharpen up my pencils in this kid I'm gonna make a mincemeat pie out of him My church is never gonna be the same Oh god Give me a guitar Hey dad have you seen my dick dosage? My car phone? My beeper's got eight numbers And my skin's got this filter Oh god Give me a girl Walking upstairs just to sit around Showing up for the big bake down Walking upstairs just to sit around Sure enough it's a big fake out Oh god Give me a gun Oh god I can't believe it.

Ninth Grade 02:32
It's the end of winter If only I could find a girl as interested In marijuana and Led Zeppelin, inhalants and shoplifting as I am Save next year I'll come back and repeat.

Glory! It's a perfect circle Each event has doubled over Airtight rusty horns We must be avenged Hard to differentiate We must be avenged Editions limited so you can tell your grandkids When you could still rock Even with the power out Decide And then what you fuck You mistake it for power Drain the romance We will be avenged Collecting legends past Collecting bottle caps Well you can still rock out Even when the power's out.

You think you're going to get somewhere tonight With those clothes you picked out especially Despite a bottle-rocket valentine And the ghosts inside the festivities This town is absolutely covered Shot down in the middle of a very thick summer I'm not going to go back there To my old high school where I learned how to waste time And if the word doesn't get around And you count me out That'll be just fine You think you're going to get to Jupiter And I'm crying in my dreams Trying to be the boy who saves the world Without a toothbrush or technology This town is no place to grow up in You can drive around You can do nothing I'm not going to prom this year Because there's fireworks here And that's way more important I'm not going back there Thank you, thank you.

He was waiting for the bus on the coldest day of the year God damn he was clean cut! Crazy babbling patron beside him talking about Whatnot, this and that, what not "And I remember making out with angels, Making angels in the snow But I don't know." Second place Back burner Consolation prize I'm the type whose dreams they never do come true Based mostly on the way you make your words move And I remember digging my own trenches Making patches in the snow But I don't know I'm not sure I'm not the king of breaking things So throw that in my face Keep your tabs on your own time 'Cause mine are all erased We could walk around or go somewhere Or we could sit here In the neat, clean past The neat, clean.

I walked up and down like a magnet That street was the goddamn polar pull No help for a jinx I couldn't shake Shades pulled, no money for a milkshake Early in the evening Of 24 hours of bad luck Broken off engagements And wondering to wake you up I thought I saw this sort of crown Of white light bulbs around her head When she was watching the t.v. I wasn't sure if it was real Or if I was hallucinating because I needed sleep Deep steps click special effects Four in the morning and no destination Yeah! Nearing the conclusion of 24 hours of bad luck Pumpkin pie forever Keep the mistakes, I am crushed Turn off the tape recorder I don't wanna talk about it Anyone can listen to themselves cry I spoke in a low and quiet tone "There is something you should know."
16.
Every time I look at you I'm not sure what, but I think it's not good I could swear I was blind or just late to the party Slipped on the ice and jumped Sugar, sugar bomb, jump Slid around in salt Ran down the street and saw (SPOKEN PART)* Everybody's rolling up their sleeves Oh no! Well, started seeing ghosts out the corner of my black eye Got the fuck out of there as fast as I could And then I rode my bicycle by your house And by the light by your window I watched you kiss him on the mouth And I knew that I should go I'd never felt such symmetry between relief and loss I knew I'd never dance with you underneath the orange moon. *all three members of Chore wrote and recorded their own speaking parts for this section of the song and this may be the only time Chad's voice was ever recorded with the band! No idea what any of us were saying exactly.

Brave as day Shouting "GIRL POWER, MOTHERFUCKER!" I guess I'm not the right type to understand Your program, man Lime green fluids seep from every pore Clearly it is the enemy who sets the trend She rolled her dad's car Just to see what kind of sound it would make Now they've made plans For set situations Young souls united are an unstoppable force Think twice if time allows Blanked out at the chance to take everything back Convinced they're white as snow Keep your eyes glued to the radio Because the things that you don't know can really fuck you up Young souls united are an unstoppable force You could feel the heat rise Up off the crowd's halted dreams Instead chivalry is dead Filled out a form to justify these feelings True liberation needs no justification Who said chivalry is dead?

Two lovers Asleep, wound down and now screaming in dreams Diatonic march for a wedding or for a funeral It kinda depends who you ask With the slow, slippery notes from the backs of their throats Slow, slippery notes from the stems of their throats Kicked-in conscience coughing up hopes on the bed Singing the same song in two different dreams Trunks entwined and undocumented The best offerings were knotted, shrill explanations Worried looks and half smiles I remember every word A parade of ghosts wave hello Marching proudly through the town The angels throw confetti and streamers down It's really nothing new The ringing in of truth Everybody's resting as the concession marches through From the top of the stairs To the bottom of your heart Where you keep your trampoline From the moment of truth To the point of conclusion And every minute in between Rewind, return Reconnect, completion It all remains to be seen The kids are all asleep downstairs But they are tiredly unprepared To understand what's going on Broken hearts are just cliché Won't be remembered anyway By the relentless light of dawn From the top of the stairs To the bottom of your heart Where you keep your trampoline The invisible trust Snapped string desires Plays foil to pure fountain pop dreams Still all this time I truly thought I held some place inside your prayers Silly me.

Steve Kenney 01:59
It's cold even inside the house The lights are out or broken Leaving little left that's not broke or frozen You won't make no promises Up inside your helicopter Swear to me on your honor When it all boils down They're nowhere to be found Doesn't matter now.
20.
Heavens No! 02:48
I think you'd better look up For it appears they are dropping a safe on you We drew our lines the moment our eyes met You earn regret Stay, stay, stay Go away Resigned all your energy Well, I just want to hold your hand When we cross the street, yeah Honey in my heart Mouth full of medicine Oh, yeah Made of dust and ice Like the rings around a planet We keep looking at the cold and frozen ground Suddenly found myself wanting more Than could be obtained within these walls As such, unlocked the door And didn't turn around to see the smoke My mom used to say get down on the ground There's no smoke there All that fucked up stuff rises Confide in all your enemies When I don't wanna hold your hand When we cross the street, yeah Honey in my heart Mouth full of medicine Oh, yeah.

End up wishing contradictions anywhere you go You've constructed what you believe home Under the snow Save yourself from yourself The ties that bind unwind And as you're left alone Somehow you've always known It would be yourself who rescued you You've come all these miles Just to see that the sky is green And there are no fireflies here And the wind only whispers Like trains toast the new year Tie yourself to truth if not to me Tie yourself to truth if not to me Tie yourself to truth if not to me Tie yourself to truth if not to me.

Shadows engulf the sights have set Facing cold streets and deserted doorways The buildings aren't quite as pretty as they were Faces are ugly, the niceness blinding A coldness enclosing, everywhere See-through eyes, empty face Soothe me Sing-song eyes, shallow face Soothe me I can hardly see myself holding my nose now Or wearing those clothes now And the people who were all my friends Where did they go now? Out of this ghost town At last the fight is set Never ending force ready to fend helpless A test of strength in this limited time Three souls will quest Three souls will fight Three souls will not win I will be Don't wish for me Soothe me Hold my breath and jump Dreamed alive, dreamed alive Underneath me is the wreckage of a train from 1876 A hundred years before I was even born And despite all that which disconnected itself from you And all that which you are no longer entwined to, You're alive You're heart is alive The heart of time is on your side The truth is with you The heart of time is on your side Hold my breath and count to five The past is always borrowed time Your heart is compromised Your heart is purified Hold my breath and count to five The past was always borrowed time Hold my breath and count to five Hold my breath in compromise The truth is on your side The heart of time is on your side.

Hayride 02:24
There's a hole in her ghost There's a hole in her ghost There's a hole in her ghost There's a hole.

Used to be we could take our mistakes and make a potluck, yup Now we just stumble on cakewalk plates And I keep asking and you just say That everything's alright Do you wanna stop everything Make something out of it, try again Or do you want to fight? Used to be I could say what I meant without worrying About mentors and being mean I keep forgetting what I should say To reconnect the record straight I'll keep it to myself If you're gonna try to make it right You're surely gonna end up wrong You're surely gonna end up wrong Give my regards to the missus Use Dawn for your dishes There's a million kisses that fill my wishes I don't think your suspicious Intuition has been no friend And a situation that had no end Is reaching its conclusion You say you're done with it Make something of it When you tell me you love me When you tell me you love me I don't know what to think.

Deathtrap 01:39
Rise and ride through such distractions! She had outgrown these dull surroundings and the accompanying fools Her pace became a liberation She felt her heart beat in both her hands And the low notes of an organ rose up through her chest and shoulders And into her neck "Hello! I'm the bureau of motor-crash investigations. I bet you're so surprised to see me! I could specialize in rumors." She was a machine She felt the road as a part of her form Took sight from the once-dimmed lights That she'd somehow just recharged There was an engine in her mouth She was gonna burn it out.

Voice 02:13
Big W I S H Underneath my pillowcase teeth, yeah I don't sleep Because I've already seen what I'm going to dream Thank you very goddamn much Thanks a lot You falter, I gave you too much credit again You alter the characteristics of your voice You're a gentleman like tuberculosis Tuberculosis, tuberculosis I know that dreams burn around the edges and fall apart Things change in a manner apart But I will take these fucking ashes And balled-up, burnt out matches And make a song and sing it.
29.
The time we've spent is the size of a pill But it clicks like crickets, as it's focused I drew you a map So you'd remember how Life behind the stars continues unavowed Fix your arms around me before you go I'll call you when you're sleeping No one will ever know They draw our blood and type our names Cannot divulge our secrets from our DNA Could be no less excited about what's to come Rather expedite the future Than remember where I'm from Just wish I could have known you well enough to miss you So set your claims beside me Before you have to go.

We had begun to resemble one another I look at you now I wish you could hear me I figured it out, fuckers I've been awake so long that I'm beginning to see things And I feel unnecessary Or vestigial to say the very least All I wanted was to be your friend And I just All I wanted was to hold your hand But now you wouldn't believe the things they're saying I guess I wasted all my wishes on one star.

My education always called me names So broke my cycles and spirit With hunger and fucked up contrived images of lust Buried in a book about machinery I will rest These buildings did nothing but flake their paint And chip my energy First check mark Second check mark Third check mark Buried in a book about technology I will rest These buildings did little more than laugh at me and strip my

about

This collects almost all studio recordings made by Ann Arbor band Chore in their run from 1994-1996. Though there were plenty of live recordings, radio broadcasts and home recorded demos (a few of which show up near the end of the collection), this discography represents the clearest articulation of the band's recorded sound. Includes all songs from their 1994 self-titled demo cassette, two 7"s, comp tracks and many songs intended for release as a debut album that never materialized.
